Tetra Pak, a world leader in food processing and packaging solutions, selected Cognition Cockpit when it decided to invest in a requirements management software system as part of an effort to improve its product creation process. “The new software helps us provide those involved in the product development process with complete and accurate requirements information,” said Hans Peter Karlelid, Global Expert Advisor at Tetra Pak. “Ensuring that everyone is working from the same requirements helps avoid costly mistakes in downstream processes with the result that we are able to reduce engineering costs and bring products to market faster.” Download the case study (pdf).

Xerox and Rochester Institute of Technology Master of Science in Product Development Program participants James Guentner, Matthew Hoffmann, and Seth Merritt have completed a Capstone paper entitled “Identifying success factors for inter-firm online collaboration within the new product development process.” Cognition Corporation was interviewed as part of this study.
This excellent paper discusses the challenges faced by technology companies as they include social media and online collaboration in their product development process. From the abstract:
Online collaboration and the success factors that enable its adoption within an extended partner new product development (NPD) team are not well understood. This has caused companies to underutilize social media within their NPD process according to the results of a systematic review of the existing literature. Can these tools be effectively used to improve the NPD process? What are the success factors for deploying and utilizing online collaboration tools for improved NPD? To answer these questions a qualitative repertory grid technique was used for research interviews to solicit antecedents, success factors and consequences from 16 social media industry experts, the results of which were coded into themes and subthemes. Hypotheses were developed that will answer the research question, “What do social media experts perceive as the factors for enabling successful B2B online collaboration?”
